Cuesta Vinas

Cuesta Vinas is a small hamlet famed for its naturally carbonated spring water. Situated just 2 kms out of the village of Valor, (a gentle 30 minute stoll), this casita is perched on the hillside overlooking the hamlet and offers peace and tranquility without being remote.

Within the 4000 square meters of land you will find a newly planted orchard, large eco-pool with sun terrace, organic flower and vegetable gardens and a shaded outdoor dining area, all with fantastic views down the valley to the sierras of Gador and the Contraviersa. A second casita is occupied by the owners and their two friendly dogs.

The house and gardens are all aimed towards a self-sufficientish and ecological lifestyle offering you the opportunity to experience a little bit of the Good Life without having to put in the work, whilst still offering all the amenities you expect on holiday. Help yourselves to vegetables fresh from the garden or simply enjoy the flowers and butterflies which abound. The local birds nest around the house and swoop around the terrace in the early morning and evening, occaisionally taking a diversion through the house itself!

The eco-pool is filtered but does not contain any chemicals, so you can find yourself sharing with the occaisional friendly frog!

If you prefer not to cook for yourself we can arrange afor your own private cook who will provide meals to your taste using fresh local produce. Why not treat yourself for either the whole of your holiday or just for one special evening........

The Area
The moorish village of Valor perches on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada gazing out over the valley and the market town of Ugijar. An unspoilt traditional Spanish village popular with spanish tourists. Situated two hours from Granada and one hour from the coast, culture, countryside, beaches and skiing are all within easy reach.

With a population of just under 1000, the village has 9 bars all of which serve tapas and a couple of which offer a full menu. There are also 2 small supermarkets, one with its own bakery, which sell all essentional shopping items including fresh meat, fruit and veg. There is also a pharmacy, bank and gift shop selling local cheeses and pottery. The traveling market visits on the 4th and 19th of every month with a few stalls selling clothing, plants, nuts & olives etc. For a wider range of shops and a bustling twice monthly market, the town of Ugijar is just 10 kilometers away. The village pool is open during the months of July and August and there are numerous fiestas throughout the year, the largest of these being Moors and Christians in September when the villagers re-enact the taking of the Alhambra complete with horses and musket fire.

Just a 45 minute walk in the oppposite direction will take you to the equally charming village of Yegen. WIth its olde worlde feel you can almost imagine youve stepped back into the last century.

You are surrounded by magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada and Contraviersa mountain ranges with numerous opportunities for walking and mountain biking on your doorstep. For the more adventurous, Mulhacen is close at hand.

Popular with Spanish tourists but as yet relatively undiscovered by other nationalities, Valor is an extremely friendly pueblo blanco and an ideal place to observe and enjoy the traditional Spanish way of life.
